I don’t often enter contests and even more rarely, photography contests, but last week I thought I’d throw my hat into the ring for a maternal lens contest. For those of you who aren’t photographers the maternal lens is a site frequented by photographers worldwide and features some of the best in our genre. This was a contest sponsored by Red Leaf Studios (check them out… they’re Canadian and AMAZING – theirĀ blog is such an inspiration) and the photos submitted had to have been processed using one or more of their actions. (again for the non-photographers… processing is how we make the photos look awesome after we take them – think of it as a digital darkroom and actions are part of the workflow – automated scripts that involve steps to enhance the images. I create many of my own actions but sometimes turn to third party ones and when I do, Red Leaf”s are among my favourites!)
There were 30 images entered and voted on in Facebook. The top five images with the most votes were then judged by a panel of amazing photographers. And that’s it… somehow mine was chosen.
Here’s the winning photo which was actually kind of a funny choice for me as I’m usually a colour girl, I rarely show black and whites but this image seemed to beg for it. I LOVED this shoot!
